2000

  • October 1st 2000: Startup date for the preparation on the project. Project manager, Johnny-Leo Jernsletten, is formally attached to the project.

  • October 10-13 2000: Senior Arctic Officials Meeting Barrow, Alaska, U.S.A. The project "Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry" is officially launched as a Arctic Council project.


2001

  • March 12, 2001: Meeting with the Russian Ministry of Agriculture; appointing of the russian members og the International Steering Committee (See "Steering Committee" for a list of all members).

  • April 4-6, 2001: Sustainable Development Working Group Meeting in Rovaniemi, Finland. Presentation of the first "Progress Report" from the project. Available on "Online Documents".

  • May 30 - June 15: Fieldtrip to Yamal-Nenets Okrug and Murmansk Oblast .

  • June 18-22: Presentation of the project at the "2. World Reindeer Herders Congress", Inare, Finland.

  • July 3 - 17: Fieldtrip to Alaska, St.Paul Island and Nome.

  • September 26 - October 4: Fieldtrip to Nordland County, Norway

  • October 30 - November 2: Collection of material about finnish reindeer husbandry, Rovaniemi, Finland.

  • November 5: Sustainable Development Working Group Meeting in Helsinki. Presentation of the "Second Progress Report". Available on "Online Documents".

  • November 6-7: Senior Arctic Official Meeting in Helsinki.

  • November 8: "Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry" - Meeting in the International Steering Committee, Helsinki.

  • November 14: Preparation for our project seminar "Sustainable Management", April 22-23, Kautokeino, Norway.

  • November 20: Presentation of the project at the seminar "Diehtoràidu", Centre for Saami Studies, University of Tromsø.


2002

  • January 21-28: Fieldtrip to Northern Finland, Karigasniemi, Nourgam, Angeli and Inare.

  • Mars 14-22: Fieldtrip to Sweden: Saarivuoma, Liehittäjä, Mausjaure, Vilhelmina Norra and Mittådalen.

  • April 25: "Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry" - Meeting in the International Steering Committee, Kautokeino, Norway.

  • April 26-28: "Reindeer Husbandry in a Circumpolar Perspective", workshop for the "Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry" project held in Kautokeino, Norway.

  • May 14: Sustainable Development Working Group Meeting in Oulu, Finland. Presentation of the "Third Progress Report". Available on "Online Documents".

  • June 12 - 13: "Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry" - Meeting in the International Steering Committee, Tromsø, Norway

  • September 16: The Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry report in print.

  • October 9: Presentation of the Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry Report at the Ministerial Meeting in Arctic Council, Sarisälka, Finland. Available on "Online Documents".

  • December 31: Ending of the Sustainable Reindeer Husbandry project.
